UP TO DATE News Urban Peak Plans New Drop-In Center for URBAN PEAK CREATES IMPACT 2008-2009 In total, 2,269 youth were served across all program areas in Fiscal Year 2009. HOUSING: Urban Peak Housing Program Provides a Big Step Forward to Exiting the Streets In 2009, Urban Peak provided housing for 160 youth. Urban Peak operates three housing units and offers other housing options for homeless youth. Each option has different qualifications and services to meet the specific needs of the individual young person. READ MORE... STREET OUTREACH: Establishing a Foundation of Trust “Everyone on the Street Outreach team brings something special to the program,” says Anne Shulga, Outreach Supervisor at Urban Peak. “Whether it’s a passion for helping youth with substance abuse issues or single moms, we play off each others’ strength. But our number one asset is our ability to build relationships with the young people we see on the streets every day.”
The Urban Peak Street Outreach Team consists of eight staff members and one Urban Servant Corps volunteer. Team members go out each day to connect young people on the streets with the services and support they need to improve their situation. READ MORE... EDUCATION & EMPLOYMENT: Laying a Foundation for Independence and Success We are thrilled to announce 50 young people will graduate with their GED on July 9th, thanks to the help of Urban Peak’s Education and Employment Program. Not only a special day for the graduating youth, Urban Peak staff and supporters can feel a sense of pride in what these young people have accomplished. “Education leading to employment is the foundation for helping our youth become independent,” says Jeff Romero, Urban Peak’s Education and Employment Supervisor. Urban Peak Collaborates with The Mile High Council to help youth “Beat the Street” In January, Urban Peak teamed up with The Mile High Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (The Council) to assist homeless youth in accessing mental health and substance abuse services. During the first year, the “Beat the Streets” project will provide intensive or weekly outpatient treatment, strengths-based case management, and supporting housing to 30 young people in need.
